Live like the Native Indians

2nd holiday camp in Tamera, from June 22nd to 27th,  2015

22 Portuguese children and 17 children from Tamera registered for this years holiday camp.  The camp had been announced for children between 5 and 13 years, aiming at Tameras children getting in contact with Portuguese children and vice versa.  Already on the second day, new friendships had arisen. End of Term 2014/15 Celebration

On the 20th of June, the Community, visitors and neighbors of Tamera were received at the Place of the Children. The outside kitchen was offering cakes, drinks and fruits to those who were arriving. End of School Year Celebration

June 14, 2014 – Already from afar, the sounds of the accordion can be perceived... and as soon as one enters the "Place of the Children", cakes and drinks are served, young and old are dressing up and slowly start to dance...

Portuguese as Second Language – Puppet Project Spring/Summer 2014

"We want to create our own puppets," this was immediately clear after the first visit of the puppeteer Isabel “Artesã de Estórias” in Relíquias, the neighboring village . Prof. José Pacheco's visit to Odemira

On the 26th and 27th of May, we had the honour to host a very special guest: Prof. José Pacheco, a visionary, one of the pioneers of “Escola da Ponte”, a public school located in the north of Portugal which follows the principles of democratic education since 1976. At the moment, José Pacheco is living in Brazil where he supports the development of free schools like “Projeto Âncora”, in São Paulo.   more...

"Travelling School" to Germany

Educational Trip to Berlin November 2012

Children from Tamera held internships for 2 weeks in the Community School known as the "Evangelical School of Central Berlin” or “ESBZ.” Students of the ESBZ received the children from Tamera in a very open and warm way. After overcoming their initial shyness, our children found their own way into the complex system of learning at ESBZ. It was an inspired exchange and many new friendships arose among the students. There was great interest was the system of "learning offices,” in which students daily chose between 4 subjects and worked through the subject matter either alone or in small teams with the help of prepared "learning modules.” more...

The Bakery Project

How it all began: While the schoolroom was being given a fresh coat of paint in September 2011, we held school outside for a week: the subjects were baking and Portuguese. We baked every day, ground our own flour, copied out recipes and learned the ingredients in Portuguese. On the last day, we visited the local baker who supplies Tamera with bread.  more...

"Travelling School" to Colombia

Youth-Pilgrimage to Bogotá in 2010

Now, after an intensive summer of education with many international students, seven of the Youth School pupils have decided to participate in the GRACE Pilgrimage in Bogotá. This year's pilgrimage they want to use to familiarize themselves with the political and social situation of South America in an environment that is protected enough. They wish to get to know the youth of San José de Apártado personally after having exchanged letters with them for some time. After the pilgrimage the youth school is invited by the well known „Teatro La Candelaria“ in Bogotá, to perform the political children theatre play „The Black Shadow“. more...
